چکیده

A special-purpose, semi-analytical solution method for determining the stress and deformation fields in a thin laminated-composite cylindrical shell with an elliptical cutout is presented. The analysis includes the effects of cutout size, shape, and orientation; non-uniform wall thickness; oval-cross-section eccentricity; and loading conditions. The loading conditions include uniform tension, uniform torsion, and pure bending. The analysis approach is based on the principle of stationary potential energy and uses Lagrange multipliers to relax the kinematic admissibility requirements on the displacement representations through the use of idealized elastic edge restraints. Specifying appropriate stiffness values for the elastic extensional and rotational edge restraints (springs) allows the imposition of the kinematic boundary conditions in an indirect manner, which enables the use of a broader set of functions for representing the displacement fields. Selected results of parametric studies are presented for several geometric https://ntrs.nasa.gov/search.jsp?R=20080006848 2017-09-14T00:47:43+00:00Z

Study on buckling of steel cylindrical shells with an elliptical cutout under combined loading

In this paper, simulation and analysis of thin steel cylindrical shells with elliptical cutouts under oblique loading were studied using finite element method. First, the numerical results were validated by the results of experimental test performed by an INSTRON 8802 servo hydraulic machine. Also, the effect of cutout angle (θ), cutout size, cutout position (L0/L) and cutout aspect ratios (b/a...

Elastic Buckling Analysis of Composite Shells with Elliptical Cross-section under Axial Compression

In the present research, the elastic buckling of composite cross-ply elliptical cylindrical shells under axial compression is studied through finite element approach. The formulation is based on shear deformation theory and the serendipity quadrilateral eight-node element is used to study the elastic behavior of elliptical cylindrical shells. The strain-displacement relations are accurately acc...

Numerical and Experimental Study on Ratcheting Behavior of Steel Cylindrical Shells with/without Cutout Under Cyclic Combined and Axial Loading

Ratcheting behavior of steel 304L cylindrical shell under cyclic combined and axial loading are investigated in this paper, numerically. Cylindrical shells were fixed oblique at angle of 20° and normal with respect to the longitudinal direction of the shell and subjected to force-controlled cycling with non-zero mean force, which causes the accumulation of plastic deformation or ratcheting beha...

A New Three-Dimensional Refined Higher-Order Theory for Free Vibration Analysis of Composite Circular Cylindrical Shells

A new closed form formulation of three-dimensional (3-D) refined higher-order shell theory (RHOST) to analyze the free vibration of composite circular cylindrical shells has been presented in this article. The shell is considered to be laminated with orthotropic layers and simply supported boundary conditions. The proposed theory is used to investigate the effects of the in-plane and rotary ine...
